Abstract

THE presence of high concentrations of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) in blood platelets has stimulated many studies on the mechanism of the uptake of the amine by these cells1–5. This process can readily be studied in vitro employing platelets suspended in plasma or in saline solutions, and there is now considerable evidence that this process is one of active transport6.
