Flavins as Components of Folic Acid Reductases

Abstract

IT has been demonstrated that tetrahydrofolicacid is an important intermediate in the conversion of folic acid into the functional form of this vitamin1–3. This conversion has been shown to take place in two steps both of which require reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide as the hydrogen carrier4. The following mechanism has been formulated:
