Abstract
RECENTLY, a new colorimetric reagent was introduced for the spectrophotometric determination of magnesium1. This reagent (LaMotte Chemical Products Co., Chestertown, Md.), 1-azo-2-hydroxy-3-(2.4-dimethylcarboxanilido)-naphthalene-1′-(2-hydroxybenzene), given the trivial name ‘magon’, has now been found to be useful as an indicator in the direct titrimetric determination of small amounts of magnesium.
