Abstract

WE wish to report a novel type of reaction in which the polymerization of DL-phenylalanine N-carbonic anhydride is initiated by polysarcosine (as dimethylamide). This reaction, which has brought to light some features that are potentially of general importance in reactions involving polymers, shows marked analogies with processes in which enzymes function as catalysts.
