Euphausiopsin, a New Photosensitive Pigment from the Eyes of Euphausiid Crustaceans

Abstract

THE eyes of euphausiid shrimps contain large quantities of vitamin A 1. Fisher et al. 1 found a particularly high concentration of the vitamin in the eyes of Euphausia pacifica. These observations have led to speculation that vitamin A may play a part in euphausiid vision.
