Abstract
WITH the demonstration1 that the main internucleotidic linkage in ribonucleic acids is b : 5′, it is clear that a final decision between 2′ : 5′ and 3′ : 5′ as possible linkage positions2 can be reached by determining the location of the phosphoryl group in the isomeric a and b nucleotides obtained by alkaline hydrolysis of ribonucleic acids3. Brown and Todd4 showed that these nucleotides are the 2′- and 3′-phosphates of the corresponding nucleosides, although not necessarily respectively.
