Distribution of Substance P in the Central and Peripheral Nervous System

Abstract

SUBSTANCE P is a biologically active polypeptide found in extracts of brain and intestine1,2. It causes a transient fall of the blood pressure and stimulation of smooth muscle even in the presence of atropine and antihistamine drugs. Purified preparations exert biological effects even in concentrations of 1 µgm. per ml. The present communication deals with its distribution in the nervous system.
