Abstract

POLYMERIZATION products from p-xylene have been shown to contain, inter alia, a hitherto undescribed hydrocarbon, the novel structure of which has been determined solely by X-ray diffraction to be tricyclo [8 : 2 : 2 : 24:7] hexadeca-4 : 6 : 10 : 12 (1) : 13 : 15-hexaene. We propose as a suitable trivial name 'di-p-xylylene'.
