Application of Dynamic Similarity to Metal Structures with Elastic and Plastic Flow

Abstract

In the attempt to attain dynamic similarity for fluid flow systems, different dimensionless criteria appear according to whether momentum and viscosity, or momentum and gravity, are the dominant factors in deciding the flow pattern. The purpose of this communication is to show that a similar argument applied to the attempt to attain dynamic similarity for the flow of a metal structure gives also two alternative dimensionless criteria according to whether momentum and elasticity or elasticity and plasticity are the dominant factors.
