Principles of Substantiating the Functional Reliability of Systems Based on the Combined Use of Surface and Subsurface Water Resources

Abstract

Regularities in the dynamics of damage to surface runoff caused by the periodic operation of groundwater intakes for the compensation of surface water runoff in low-water periods are studied. It is shown that the time when the damage to runoff was inflicted in the period of groundwater intake and in the period of groundwater level recovery (after the water intake was stopped) should be taken into account. The reliable functioning of a system for combined use of surface and subsurface waters is proved to be feasible through optimizing the design of compensation water intakes with allowance made for the hydrogeological conditions of the watershed.
