Abstract

Aim: To examine histological natureand clinical process of ureteralcarcinosarcomas. Methods: We reporton a new case of carcinosarcoma of the ureter. The literature was reviewed and histologicaland clinical features were elucidated. Results: Fourteen cases of ureteralcarcinosarcomas have been reported. Thenomenclature used for these tumors either inthe pathology reports or in literature isconfusing. In contrary to obscure tumorbiology, prognosis was clearly bad as themajority of the patients died within 2 yearsafter diagnosis. Conclusions: Terminology confusionis due to the rarity of this entity and lack ofits biology knowledge. Patients present afterthe age of 60 with hematuria and obstruction.Nephroureterectomy is the only hope of curebut, due to tumor aggressiveness, recurrencesoccur almost always and prognosis is poor.
