Acoustic Emission in Martensitic Transformations in Alloys under Mechanical Loading

Abstract

In the alloys undergoing thermoelastic martensitic transformations under mechanical loading, accumulation and recovery of deformation is observed. The acoustic emission accompanying the martensitic transformations is a reflection of peculiar features of deformation-induced behavior of an alloy in the course of its transformation. The anomalous acoustic effect is correlated with the buildup of reversible deformation but is not so with that of the irreversible deformation.
