Partial Reactions of Copper Dissolution under Cathodic Polarization in Acidic Media

Abstract

Experimental data on the copper dissolution under cathodic polarization (anomalous dissolution) are discussed. It is shown that anomalous copper dissolution is a complex process with mixed kinetics. The oxygen transport to the electrode surface is the main controlling stage. Stages of the copper oxidation and surface copper oxide dissolution account for a considerably smaller fraction of control. A simplified scheme of partial reactions on copper under its cathodic polarization is suggested.
