Effect of Silicide Ceramic Coatings on the High-Temperature Strength and Ductility of Niobium Alloy of the Nb – W – Mo – Zr System

  • Published:
Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Abstract

The characteristics of short-term strength and ductility of niobium alloy 5VMTs of the Nb – W – Mo – Zr system and a composite from alloy 5VMTs with a silicide ceramic coating are studied in vacuum, in an inert medium, and in air within a temperature range of 290 – 2070 K. The kinetics of the nucleation and evolution of damage in the protective coating and in the matrix is investigated. The values of ultimate plastic strain at which the composite preserves the bearing capacity in high-temperature aggressive and oxidizing gas media are determined.
