Abstract
1-Hydroxy-2-ethylthioethane, CH3CH2SCH2CH2OH, (HETE) gave relatively stable intermediate sulfonium cations, with water solutions of mineral acids, which could be extracted into chloroform as ionic associates in the presence of bis(1,2-dicarbollyl)cobaltate anions labeled with 60Co independently of the nature of the inorganic anion but depending on the activity of hydrogen ions. The water phase contained buffers and acids HCl, H2SO4, H3PO4 and HClO4. The kinetics and mechanism of the reactions have been studied.
