Crystal-Chemical Nature of Mg–M–Fe–O (M = Cr, Al) Spinel Ferrites

Abstract

The composition dependences of the lattice parameter and saturation magnetization for solid solutions with bulk compositions of (MgCr2O4) c (Fe3O4)1 – c and (MgAl2O4) c (Fe3O4)1 – c (0 ≤ c ≤ 1.0) indicate that these solid solutions consist of three spinel components. This finding accounts for the observed deviations from additivity in experimental data.
