Effect of Y2O3 Additions on the Strength of Mullite Ceramics

  • Published:
Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

Data are presented on the distribution of small yttria additions in mullite ceramics prepared from ultrafine powders. The powders were produced via sol–gel processing by the diphasic sol method. It is shown that yttria improves the sinterability of mullite. In addition, small yttria additions enhance the strength of mullite ceramics.
