Evaluation of the Loading of Pipeline Welds in Terms of Residual Strain of the Pipes

Power Technology and Engineering Aims and scope

Abstract

The design hoop strain of a pipe loaded by internal pressure and bending moment under creep is determined. It is shown that the mean strain measured from two mutually perpendicular diameters coincides with the mean hoop strain over the perimeter of the cross section of the pipe. The obtained dependence of the strain on the bending moment is compared with experimental data. It is recommended to use standard measurements of creep for selection check of welded joints by ranking them according to the degree of loading.
