Abstract
Histological observations of the gonads of Siganus argenteus showed that gametes developed toward the last quarter moon from May to July. Weekly changes in plasma steroid hormones were correlated closely with gonadal development. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) stimulated in vitro production of steroid hormones at the specific lunar phase. These results suggest that the concomitant physiological events in the gonads strictly changes with the lunar cycle.
