Statistics and the Origin of the Royal Netherlands Economic Association

Abstract

The Royal Netherlands Economic Association, of which De Economist is nowadays the official journal, is founded in 1849. The recently published edited volume by Klep and Stamhuis highlights the development of statistics in the period preceding the foundation of our Economic Association. During the early years of the association, collection and analysis of statistical data at the level of the state played a prominent role in the activities.
