Deformation by the Mechanism of Dissolution–Reprecipitation as a Form of Adsorption Plasticization of Natural Salts

Abstract

Results of works on studying the effect of water on the deformation properties of salt polycrystals and powders are reviewed. Plasticization of salts by the dissolution–reprecipitation mechanism (recrystallization creep) discussed in reviewed works is considered as one of the forms of Rehbinder's effect (change in the mechanical properties of a solid resulted from the physicochemical interaction with the medium). The relative role of the proposed micromechanisms of deformation in the long-term behavior of natural salt is analyzed.
