Tissue Hemoglobins in Bivalvia (Mollusca)

Abstract

Distribution and properties of tissue hemoglobins in bivalves are reviewed. The mollusk gills are given particular attention; data on their functions, relative weight, and surface area as well as the content, properties, and functional importance of gill hemoglobin are reviewed.
