Abstract

A method for preparing bulk sources of γ rays for calibrating the efficiency of the counting geometries up to 0.1 liters in volume in the photon energy range 5–2500 keV is described. The sources are prepared using a mixture of chernozem and chestnut soils (base) and solutions of radionuclides with T 1/2 < 1 yr (54Mn, 57Co, 58Co, 88Y, 114mIn, 139Ce, 141Ce, 203Hg) and long-lived radionuclides (133Ba, 152Eu, 207Bi, 226Ra, 241Am) with activity 1.7·103–1.15·104 Bq and radionuclide purity >99.9%. Certification and checking measurements were performed using the RÉUS-II-15 setup (class II working standard).

The prepared set of four bulk volume activity measures is intended for an in-laboratory measurement geometry used for radionuclide analysis of soil samples by the γ spectrometric method.
