Abstract
Epithermal neutrons are used in boron-neutron-capture therapy to remove multiform glioblastomas and deep-lying melanoma tumors. Thermal neutrons interact with 10B which is preintroduced as a pharmacological preparation. The reaction products kill malignant tumor cells.
A beam of epithermal neutrons from a nuclear reactor is formed using collimators and specially assembled additional moderators. A method where detectors with 235U, screened by 10B with different thickness and placed in a vertical array perpendicular to the beam, is proposed for obtaining real-time information. The neutron flux near ΔE i and the spectrum in a wide range are determined from the difference of the signals from before and after detectors.
