Abstract
Fractured rocks and concretes may be modeled by a medium consisting of coupled grains of arbitrary size. A nonuniform distribution of the load applied in biaxial compression is considered. An algorithm is developed for calculating the strength, and its dependence on the mean principal stress is established.
