Abstract
Fundamental ideas underlying the definition ofthe properties of physical systems by means ofmeasurement procedures in the paradigm of operationalismare introduced and discussed. Minimal criteria that such procedures might be expected to satisfyare suggested and a fundamental limitation tooperationalism is pointed out.
