Continuously Measured Systems, Path Integrals, and Information

Abstract

A continuously measured quantum system may bedescribed by restricted path integrals (RPI) orequivalently by non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. The measuredsystem is then considered as an open system, theinfluence of the environment being taken into account byrestricting the path integral or by inclusion of animaginary part in the Hamiltonian. This way ofdescription of measurements naturally follows from theFeynman form of quantum mechanics without anyadditional postulates and may be interpreted as aninformation approach to continuous quantum measurements.This reveals deep features of quantum physics concerning relations between quantum world and itsclassical appearance.
