Abstract
Physicists share a general consensus on theformal treatment of time within their theories, whichdoes not preclude, however, the possibility ofdifferences in understanding and interpretation, asshown on several examples, taken mainly from theso-called 'special' and'general' theories of relativity. Thehistorical roots of the pitiful neglect of thisconceptual variability are sketched. We are finally led to wonder about the possibility ofalternative theorizations of time in physics.
