Abstract
In this essay, I focus on James Dittes' Minister on the Spot (1970) which addresses the inherent conflicts in the vocation of ministry in the form of a meditation (complete with scriptural texts) and When the People Say No: Conflict and the Call to Ministry (1979) which continues the examination of resistance begun in Minister on the Spot. Resistance, the clash of the people's expectations with the minister's, is the occasion for ministry.
