Influence of Erythrocyte Aggregation on the Scattering Properties of Blood

Journal of Applied Spectroscopy Aims and scope

Abstract

An optical model of erythrocyte aggregation with capture of blood plasma is considered. The optical characteristics of the erythrocytes and of their aggregates which determine radiation transfer under conditions of multiple scattering have been calculated in the approximation of homogeneous spheres with a complex index of refraction averaged over the volume of the aggregates. It is shown that the erythrocyte aggregation and possible capture of blood plasma in the process of formation of aggregates can cause significant changes in the optical characteristics of blood.
