Abstract
The closest correspondence between latitudinal hydrogeological and landscape zones is found to exist when the relationship between the heat and moisture received by the land surface is optimal. The lack of heat or moisture eliminates the correlation between the latitudinal hydrogeological and landscape zones. In this case, the major factors that control the area distribution of groundwater are neotectonics, hydrogeological zonality, and permafrost.
