Self-organization in an Ensemble of Fine Particles during Vapor Condensation under Highly Nonequilibrium Conditions

Abstract

The self-organization in an ensemble of fine particles during vapor-phase growth of cadmium telluride films on glass substrates under highly nonequilibrium conditions is studied by electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and x-ray phase analysis. The results demonstrate that, under highly nonequilibrium conditions, oriented films can be grown on glass substrates. Oriented growth is accompanied by an anomalous reduction in deposition rate. Temperature ranges are found which favor orientation ordering of growing CdTe particles.
