Unusual condensation of 4,5-dimethyl-1,2-phenylenediamine with phthalaldehyde in the presence of NiII complexes giving rise to 4,5-dimethyldiisoindolo[2,1-a:1,2-c]quinoxaline-1,8-dione

Abstract

The reaction of 4,5-dimethyl-1,2-phenylenediamine (1) with phthalaldehyde (2) in the presence of NiII complexes afforded 4,5-dimethyldiisoindolo[2,1-a:1,2-c]quinoxaline-1,8-dione (3), whose structure was established by X-ray diffraction analysis.
