Abstract

The buildup of oxidation products of L-α-phosphatidylcholine, the constituent of liposome lipid bilayers, was studied depending on the qualitative and quantitative composition of radiolytic species formed on irradiation of an aqueous dispersion. The presence of ionol (2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol) as a nonselective radical scavenger at a concentration of 2.5 × 10–4 mol/glipid in a lipid bilayer decreased the accumulation of oxidation products by a factor of 3–7.
