Abstract
We have used the quasiclassical Eilenberger framework to calculate the local density of states (LDOS) for superconductors with different order parameter symmetries, several of which have been suggested for the high temperature cuprates. The order parameters which we have examined are s-wave, d-wave, anisotropic s-wave, mixtures of s and \(d_{x^2 - y^2 } ,d_{x^2 - y^2 } + is,d_{x^2 - y^2 } + id_{xy} \) and g-wave. We suggest that in the future it may be possible to use the LDOS to “fingerprint” superconductors using STM imaging of vortex cores, hence providing a potentially elegant method for determining gap symmetry.
