Abstract
A systematic technique is proposed for synthesizing a distributed recording circuit for a time-of-flight type of velocity measuring system. The technique is based on the criterion of minimum sum of methodic error in the indirect determination of the instantaneous velocity and the error of measurement of the average velocity along a portion of the path. The expressions obtained can be used to determine the optimal value of the intervals between neighboring sensors and to estimate the errors of measurement. It is shown that the interval between sensors should be variable, with an adaptation to the results of the measurement on the preceding interval along the path.
