Abstract

We shall call Far-Infrared (FIR), the part of the electromagnetic (e.m.) spectrum ranging from 30 μm to 3000 μm. A short history of 50 years of research in the Far Infrared: 1952-2002. is worthwhile to consider now that the field has so much progressed. It is possible to write this story from published documents and from our own memory of the major events. It has to be supplemented by our colleague's own souvenirs.
