Abstract
A model for polygonal crack system forming in the plane layer fastened to the elastic base which is subject to uniform biaxial tension is proposed. An integral criterion of the maximum tensile stress is chosen as a condition of crack origination. For the case of uniform tension, the system of cracks is formed, and their average characteristics are studied.
