Use of the Mass Spectrum–Compound Fragment Composition Database in the Determination of the Structure of Organic Compounds

Abstract

A mass spectral database in which structural formulas are presented as nonisomorphic connected k-vertex fragments (2 ≤ k ≤ 7) is used for identifying the structure of organic compounds. It is shown with the example of a test sample of 13  000 mass spectra of various organic compounds that up to half the fragments of an unknown analyte can be identified in 50% of cases. Relationships between the correctly and erroneously identified data are given.
