Frequency Dependence of Magnetic Permeability of Hollow Cylindrical Rods under Homogeneous AC Field

Abstract

The effective magnetic permeability of hollow cylindrical rods is derived from experimental data by solving the inverse problem for cylindrical samples under homogeneous ac magnetic field. The complex magnetic permeability is plotted as a function of the magnetic field frequency in the form of hodographs. Hodographs of magnetic permeability of hollow cylinders have a number of distinctive features in comparison with those for solid cylindrical rods. Measurements of the effective magnetic permeability of rods from various materials as functions of frequency demonstrate that this parameter provides a good basis for a multiparameter testing technique.
