Abstract
Using an experimental model of postoperation pain, we found that a single injection of Ketanov (0.5 mg/kg) into rats 5 min before incision prevents changes in the level of calcium-binding protein S-100-beta both in the brain regions and blood serum. The results allow us to suggest that Ketanov blocks activation of astrocytes and the associated proinflammatory cytokine release implicated in the creation and maintenance of pain states.
