Abstract
Using the Duffing equation, we consider resonance bunching of oscillators with small initial amplitudes under the action of an alternating force. The relative phases of the oscillators and of the force are calculated analytically. It is shown that all the initially unphased oscillators acquire close phases and, consequently, close amplitudes over a short time comparable with the period of fast oscillations. The amplitudes can be calculated using simple equations of an oscillator that is in phase with the external force. A physical explanation of the bunching is given.
