Abstract
A protection mechanism for steels in oxygenated neutral water is considered as similar to that for previously oxidized steels in deionized water containing corrosion inhibitors. In both the cases, the diffusion of iron ions from the metal into the solution through the pores of the oxide layer is presumably suppressed due to blocking the pores by electric fields induced by inhibitive ions adsorbed inside the pores.
