Modeling of open‐sea ecological impact: Impact wave localization and pattern formation

Abstract

Traveling (impact) waves in an inhomogeneous diffusion–reaction model of an ecosystem after a localized initial impact are considered. For a bistable system, explicit relations are obtained to predict wave localization (blocking). The validity of a single‐component bistable model to describe pattern formation is discussed.
