Abstract

The effect of the compressibility of the fluid on the parameters of a hydraulic gun is evaluated. The quasi‐one‐dimensional motion of an ideal compressible fluid is described by equations of nonstationary gas dynamics, which are solved numerically according to the algorithm proposed. The numerical solution for a compressible fluid is compared with an analytical solution for an incompressible fluid and with an experiment, which are performed by other authors. From an analysis of the results conclusions are drawn that the compressibility of the fluid can be disregarded. It is proposed that the Mach number the used as a criterion for assessing account for the compressibility of the fluid.
