Abstract

Surface compounds on a galenite electrode anodically polarized from –0.5 to 0.7 V (NHE) in a sodium tetraborate deoxygenated solution (pH 9.18) are identified in situby the FTIR spectroscopy; a voltammogram is recorded simultaneously. It follows that lead hydroxide forms on galenite by the salt-film mechanism, giving lead thiosulfate and sulfite in the next oxidation step.
