Abstract

In the works of the French-Jewish writer Henri Raczymow, Proust and Flaubert are prominently present as intertexts. The novel Bloom & Bloch in particular is a witty, contemporary continuation of Proust and Flaubert by way of pastiche and parody. Through an analysis of these intertexts, the present article attempts to grasp two recurring, complementary themes in Raczymow. On the one hand, the infinite possibilities of fiction, how it can take hold of reality. On the other hand, literary failure and the difficulty of writing.
