A Study of Acoustic Emission under Plastic Strain and in Disintegrating Porous Materials

Abstract

The paper reports on an experimental study of acoustic emission under conditions of plastic strain and destruction of iron-based porous materials over a wide range of porosity values. Correlations have been established between parameters of acoustic emission and stages of strain hardening under tensile stress. At higher values of porosity, the count rate of acoustic emission pulses versus strain becomes a monotonic function, which is interpreted as a transition to one-stage strain hardening in highly porous metals.
