Abstract

Aquatic Oligochaeta from various habitats of subterranean waters in the Lyon area were examined. This preliminary taxonomical survey takes the families Tubificidae and Lumbriculidae into account. A new species of Tubificidae (subfamily Phallodrilinae), Gianius cavealis, is described. It was recorded from a subterranean gallery `Le Trou des Voleurs' (Poncin, Southern Jura), and with regard to the genital setae, it is close to G. riparius (Giani & Martínez, 1981) which is also know from southwestern Europe. The study of specimens of Trichodrilus campoyi Rodriguez, 1988, a lumbriculid cohabiting with G. cavealis, leads to a discussion of taxonomical criteria in this species, based on a comparison with literature data. Moreover, new material of T. tenuis Hrabe, 1960 collected from several sampling sites allows us to supplement previous descriptions with information on the structure of the spermathecae.
