Abstract

RIKEN accelerator research facility (RARF) has started a project to extend the present heavy ion accelerator complex to produce high-energy and high-intensity radioactive ion beams. This report reviews the present status of RARF and describes the new project, RIKEN RI Beam Factory. Some proposed experiments and possibilities in atomic physics are also described.
